leading candidates. so this end the league of women voters of san francisco and the san francisco public press working with researchers at uc davis, developed an issue position survey for the supervisorial candidates. the candidates were asked to state whether they support or opposite 43 specific polices or policy proposals. many of which have recently divided the board of supervisors. as the candidates here tonight, london breed, julian davis, hope johnson, andrew resignato and thea selby answered. christina olague has not answered any of the questions. the survey responses were provided to team of uc hasteings ings students and representatives of league of women voters, who drew up the questions for tonight's debate. the results of the candidate survey are used by the san francisco public press to create a non-partisan voter guide that summarizes where the candidates stand on the issue and will be available on the website soon. meanwhile hvnnjp. preview you may pick up a copy of the current issue of the san francisco public press at the table in the back of the room, which has a fold o

san francisco. world champions in baseball and a convincing division in football on national television have put san francisco in the limelight for being a world class city with world champions, caliber athletics. also in the world stage, coreen mayfield, an unbeaten boxer from district 5, was shining on hbo against maurico herrera, winning a 10 round unanimous decision and in the process defending his north america boxing organization junior welter weight title in the process for the second time. outside of the ring he volunteers his time with a number of youth outreach programs, coaching and mentoring youth to lead positive lives. he is a local celebrity, not only for his talents as an athlete, but also for his commitment to lifting up the young people of san francisco through sports and discipline. in 2003, having put the street life behind him, this young man walked into a gym and four years later became a professional boxer. what an amazing story. back to you. >> all right. >> now a question for miss breed and mr. resignato. san francisco currently provides free or low-cost health care to residents who can't afford private health insurance and do not qualify for coverage from the state or federal government? do you agree with funding this for employees who spend less for their employees health care than what the city believes is adequate? >> yes. i think it's important that we continue in this direction. i was one of those persons who grew up -- i mean my grandmother raised me and my brothers and she worked as a maid and couldn't afford health care. and luckily we had medicare and we were able to go to the doctor and the dentist. i still have my same dentist who has been my dentist since i actually had teeth. i just think it's great that kids and people who don't have access to health care have access to health care. we need to look at ways to move into that direction and i think san francisco has definitely led the way for our president to move forward with obamacare and i'm excited about that and i think we can find more innov

afraid i'm going to lose my insurance. this is transformative. san francisco figured this out a while ago, the comprehensive health care really makes the difference not only at the individual level, but for increasing community health and wellness. so, again, a real signal -- real shout out to san francisco for your leadership. and a real signal to how we can potentially move forward as a nation. so, thank you. so, san francisco has been a model city for over 30 years in hiv prevention care and treatment. we look forward to working with you at the national aids policy. we are going to continue to do a lot of outreach, conversations, figuring out how to bring the community voice to the federal level. it is always helpful for us to remind ourselves what have we done today to prevent new hiv infections. what have we done today to improve somebody's life living with hiv. and we know to recognize and to realize the present vision of an aids regeneration, we need to continue to build more bridges, which is like this. so, thank you very much and congratulations. . >> miss miller, item 3. >> item 3 is an item amending the san francisco administrative code by adding section 1.60 to require the mayor's office of housing and the planning department to report to the board of supervisors. >> our president, mr. chiu. >> that has been trailing the trust fund amendment that we have placed on the november ballot. there were a number of policy that is we wanted to legislate in the wake of that particular charter amendment and this is one of them. should voters approve the trust fund measure when it goes to the ballot, we would like for this piece of legislation to go into effect and this was something that came out of discussions with the mayor's office on housing. given that the trust fund measure is going to be put into place policies that will last for the next 30 years, including a decrease in inclusionary housing requirements by 20 percent, as well as an increase in the inclusionary program from 5 to 10 units, i wanted to make sure the city was regularly evaluating the impact of these policies on affordable housing policies by requiring the pl

would truly look at. thank you. >> thank you. >> yes parking here in san francisco is a major cash cow for local government. they raise close to $200 million in revenue from parking here and the variable meters in my opinion is just another gimmick. it parks close to $6 an hour to park at a meter on any given day it's ridiculous. i am opposed to the variable rate meters and would take the residential permit one step further and allow those people to be allowed to use the parking permits to park on meters in shopping areas so i would propose that i am definitely opposed to send meters and saturday meters. it's a deterrent to patronizing small business. >> okay. the resulting economy has resulted in internet base for short term rentals and many of the rentals are illegal and the hotel tax is not collected. should the city legalize some or all of the arrangements and collect a hotel tax and we will begin with you -- i will be glad to repeat the question. >> i honestly don't know how you would enforce a law like that. of course everyone should pay their fair share but i don't know how

question who has been working hard to make sure that the city and county of san francisco does everything possible to leave up responsibilities my office help to bring in above the budget due to the hard work of our office. pensions are a major issue not only in san francisco and the state. part of the work that we did last year where we worked with labor unions and unix to debate and discuss and dialogue and we found a pension proposal that we could bring forward to the voters in the city and county of san francisco which was passed and we know that that is not the final step that the first of many things that we are going to have to do to make sure that we have a balanced budget. the worst thing that we can do is to make sure that we need to make sure that pensions are going to be there for people when they retire and we need to do everything possible to make sure that we live up to the obligations that we promised people when they started working. >> mr. bryer. >> pension is something that is critically important for the state. and we have huge obligations in the pension fun

parts of the city following the victory by the san francisco giants. it goes without saying that all of us in this city and certainly all of us in this room have been thrilled to see the giants win a second championship in the course of 24 months. there is much to celebrate. unfortunately, a number of individuals used that celebration as an excuse to engage in activity that ultimately is simply reprehensible and unacceptable. we had a number of events that happened in the mission and specifically on mission street. we had a number of trash bins that were set on fire, and we had following the victory many businesses that were covered with graffiti along the mission street corridor between 16th and 24th streets. i had the displeasure of having to survey the damage that was left that next morning, and i can tell you that it is really upsetting and frustrating and angering, actually, to see so many businesses tagged for no reason. i spoke to many of the property owners and many of them are small businesses that are already struggling in this economy and that they have to deal with the after

san francisco police arrested a man in connection with sunday night's muni bus analyst. san francisco police have arrested gregory tyler on felony charges of vandalism and injuring or destroy passenger transit vehicle. a lot of people are expected to flood the streets of san francisco today for a ticker-tape parade. celebrating the giants would series plane. the parade will be a family friendly talk of free of it. crews were out setting out a giant video screen on larkin street. with more than one line people expected to attend today's event crews are also setting up at the barricades designed to hold back the crowd. today's parade will begin at the foot of market street near san francisco bay and cover about one and one-half miles to city hall. it will be all hands on deck for bart as the transit agency expects record ryder ship with giant fans across the bay area heading to the parade. the best way to avoid long lines heading to the giant parade is to purchase a roundtrip ticket. also bart is recommending that daily commuters get to the station and hour earlier than usual in anticipation o

and the people of san francisco. and i just want to say a couple of things. i don't speak as a mental health expert, but more than a lot of the tools that we use, whether it's sfgtv or medication and all those sorts of things, but i've often seen at the root of mental health issues the lack of care and compassion that we show both in the services we provide and in our policy making. and i see this every day when i walk through tenderloin, when i walk through sixth street and south of market and in the mission. and i think it's incredibly important that when we as policy makers think about how to best address a lot of these issues that we come from a place of compassion of policy making when we approach these things. people ask me why shelter reform is a priority for our office, why i spent a night in our shelters, why it's so important for me to represent sro tenants in our district. it's because i know so many people that have been impacted by mental health. and nobody in this chamber ever wants to see their grandmother, their cousin or brother or father in one of our shelters
